How To Overcome Emotional Overeating

Learning how to overcome emotional overeating is a matter of digging down to the source of the feelings that are causing your emotional overeating.

It has nothing to do with hunger, but instead food is used as calming tool to relieve worries.

When food is eaten mindlessly in large quantities to ease emotional upset, it can eventually cause health and weight problems if not addressed. Emotional overeating is normally caused by stress, anxiety, boredom or worry.

The first step that must be taken is to discover the underlying cause of the emotional overeating. You will not be able to resolve this problem until you find out the true reason for it.

Keeping a journal of your feelings and thoughts when you begin an overeating binge is the best way to begin. The triggers that start our emotional overeating must be identified and resolved.

Causes Of Emotional Overeating

Boredom is a common cause of emotional overeating. If it is just pure boredom that is causing the problem, then you have to find something to occupy your time so you don’t get bored.

Take up a hobby, take a class, take a walk, start an exercise program or anything else that will keep you occupied so you don’t overeat.

The most common causes of emotional overeating are stress and worry. In this extremely fast paced world we live in, it is almost normal to be stressed out.

But when this stress causes emotional problems, it must be dealt with immediately. If it is allowed to go on for too long it will affect your overall health and well being.
