Are you a sugar addict and would like to know how to stop your sugar cravings? You are not alone.

Thousands of people are addicted to sugar and have found themselves unable to stop their sugar cravings. Eating sugar satisfies us for a short time but then quickly has us hungry and craving more.

The problem with simple carbohydrates such as sugary foods, is that they have no nutritional value. They fill us up with worthless calories that damage our health, deplete our energy and make us gain weight.

If you really want to stop your sugar cravings, you have to stop eating sugar. This is the only way you be able to get off the sugar craving roller coaster. It’s not as hard as you think.

There are many good replacements for your sugary treats that are healthy and very tasty.

Stop Sugar Cravings

Once you stop eating sugar, your cravings for sugar will go away.  The first step is to clear out your kitchen of all sugar including sodas, muffins, cookies and cakes.   You know that if it is there you will eat it.  Get rid of it so you won’t be tempted.

Stock your kitchen with lots of fruit.  This is the replacement you will use for sugar.  All natural peanut butter (made with only peanuts and salt) will also help calm your sugar cravings.  Eat apples slices with peanut butter on top or bananas and peanut butter.

If you must use a sugar substitute, Stevia is the safest and it will not increase your sugar cravings.  It won’t adversely affect your blood glucose levels and can be used freely by diabetics.

Stop Sugar Cravings With Sugar Free Smoothies

If you are craving chocolate, you can make a sugar free smoothie that is delicious.  In a blender (I use a Magic Bullet - small blender) combine milk or yogurt, frozen sweet cherries, a tablespoon of cocoa powder (unsweetened of course) and a packet of Stevia.

Another good dessert smoothie is:  Blend together a frozen banana, a tablespoon of peanut butter, a tablespoon of powdered cocoa and milk or yogurt.  Delicious - eat with a spoon just like ice cream.

There are so many different ways you can eat fruit as a replacement for sugar that after a while you won’t even miss the sugar.

Once it is out of your system, you won’t crave the sugar anymore.    You will finally be free of the sugar cycle.  This is the only way to truly stop sugar cravings.

Patti, this is a really great idea It would be a lot better than the sugar. It annoys me when I see very large women sitting in the cafes on a regular basis scoffing into all the cakes and stuff for morning tea. If only they would follow your great example they would be so much healthier.

It s a pity I couldnt give them this.. I wish.

The easiest way for me to stop sugar cravings it to not eat sugar! Instead we make desserts sweetened with apple juice, stevia or agave nectar. Honey works too.

Very helpful information. I have never heard of stevia either. I'll have to tell my parents about it. They are both diabetics. Thank you.

Eating fruit does curb the craving for sugar very well. Maybe I should do a hub on stevia.

Ice cream is also one of my favorites - I also give in to it occasionally.

Thank you for sharing these tips Patti Ann!

I usually grab a fruit whenever I get sweet cravings. However, I must confess that I could not resist an occasional scoop of ice cream or a bite of chocolate crunch.

Great Tips Patti Ann - I've especially found that not having sugary treats in my home as the best way to stop the sugar cravings. Fortunetly, I only crave sugar during that time of the month, so I have to really be careful around that time.

Stevia is the only sweetener that I use now. You're right it doesn't have the aftertaste and it is totally natural.

I totally agree with you. I have been using Truvia for the past 8 months or so. It's the best of the non sugar sweetners in my opinion but they are all made with the stevia plant, the new via sugars that is. No aftertaste from what I can tell.
